VASCO SC STUN DEMPO SC
Dempo SC and Vasco SC players battle in their Group A Match, on Day-11 of the Goa Sevens Premier League match played at SAG ground, Fatorda, on Wednesday.

FATORDA: Dempo SC suffered a surprise 1-3 defeat against Vasco SC in the Group A match of the Goa Sevens Premier League match Day-11, at SAG ground, on Fatorda, on Wednesday.
By virtue of this result, group leaders SCC Cavelossim and
second-placed Churchill Brothers FC qualified for the semi-finals.
In a must win match for Golden Eagles, the North Goa team were
stunned in front of thousands of spectators as Vasco SC scored thrice through
Princeton Rebello, Rovan Pereira and JaisonVaz while Naveen pulled one back for
Vasco.
Princeton Rebello was back in the side for Vasco SC as Coach
EbanMisquita made just one change replacing Sunny Fernandes with the youngster,
while Dempo SC had no change in the squad.
Princeton didn’t take long to make his mark in the team as he
gave his team an early lead when JaisonVaz set the youngster at goal and the
former’s right footer crashed into the Dempo SC nets in the second minute.
Stunned by reverse, the Golden Eagles regrouped quickly and
pressed their opponents with quick passes and attacked from the width.
Dempo SC had the best chance to draw level in the seventh
minute, but Joaquim Abranches shot wide from the goal mouth after
NicksonCastanha’s free-kick hit the cross bar and fell to the former FC Goa
striker.
The North Goa side just couldn’t keep their composure infront of
the rival goal.
Hayden Fernandes failed to capitalise on Vasco keeper
PrabhakarKattimani’s miss pass which fell in his path, but the former AIFF
academy player fumbled when it mattered most.
In the 21st minute, Vasco SC’s Sherwin went into referee’s books
for a rough tackle on Hayden. The youngster himself took the resultant
free-kick from outside the box, which deflected off the wall.
The Port Towners doubled the lead just before the break when
Lalbabu Matho’s aerial ball was met by Rovan Pereira, who scored past helpless
Dempo SC keeper Tyson Caido, 2-0.
Dempo SC missed two chances before the half time whistle, as
first Hayden’s shot hit the cross bar and minutes later, Abranches saw his
effort brilliantly saved by Vasco SC keeper Kattimani.
Dempo SC started the second half on an attacking note and it
didn't take long for the Golden Eagles to pull a goal back.
Naveen scored with a neat placement after being fed by
BeevanD'Mello from the left flank.
The goal enlightened the Dempo SC camp as they dominated the
proceedings. NicksonCastanha's saw his long range effort miss the target by
inches.
Dempo SC coach introduced Kapil Hoble replacing Beevan, who
failed to make any impact in the team besides his earlier assist.
The North Goa side conceded the third goal in the 47th minute
when Vasco's Jaison scored off Sherwin's assist against the run of play.
It wasn't Dempo's day as the North Goa team just couldn't get
their acts right in front of the rival goal.
Hayden, Kapil, Abranches failed to keep their cool as they shot
wide on various occasions.
Dempo SC were awarded a penalty in the second half added time
when Kapil Hoble was tripped by Vasco's Jovan. Skipper Nickson failed to
convert from the spot kick. Vasco's Kattimani bagged the Man-of-the-Match
award.
Eban Misquita, coach of Vasco SC was on top with the Port Town
boys emerging winners.” I came into the Goa Sevens Premier League with most of
my best boys not playing here. But in this game I played them in positions they
had never played but it worked. I told them to continue the attack and it
worked wonders,” said Eban.
Dempo coach Samir Naik was in no mood to comment but he looked
visibly upset at the missed opportunities.

MICKY BRACE FIRES GUARDIAN ANGEL SC INTO SEMIS

The Curchorem side became the first team to qualify for the
knock-outs after collecting seven points from three matches.
Bonny Niasso and sub Sanwil D’Costa were the other goal scorers
for the winners while Peter Carvalho netted a brace for Bardez.
Guardian Angel Coach Riston Rodrigues made one change in his
side introducing Josley Dias in place of Nicholas Fernandes while FC Badez
Coach Climax Lawrence made no changes in the line up from his previous game.
Riding on the vociferous fans, Guardian Angel SC took control of
the game from the first whistle. The Curchorem side tested the North Goa team
on several occasions in the first quarter before taking the much deserved lead.
First, Ashely Araujo saw his right footer saved by FC Bardez
keeper Jeet Gupta while minutes later Bonny Niasso’s goal bound shot took the
deflection of the rival defender and went out for a corner.
Guardian Angel finally broke the deadlock in the 14th minute,
when Josley Dias and Bonny Dias broke the Bardez defence with quick passes
before the latter fired a low shot in the far corner, 1-0.
Guardian Angel SC showed no sign of content as they pressed in
search for their second and almost scored in the 16th minute, only to see
Ashley’s shot hit the woodwork.
At the other end, FC Bardez equalised in the next minute when
Guardian Angel keeper failed to collect ShubhamDessai’s shot which rolled into
Peter Carvalho’s path and the skipper finished with a simple shot to draw
level.
Guardian Angel SC found themselves on the back foot in the final
minutes of the first half. However, Guardian Angel keeper Pratheesh VV made a
stunning save on a one-on situation to deny FC Bardez’sShubham.
Guardian Angel began the second half on an attacking note with
Benze Clemente’s shot missing the post by inches.
The Curchorem side were awarded a penalty in the 47th minute
when FC Bardez’ sAlesh late challenge on Don Bosco in the box forced referee
point towards the spot. Micky stepped up to take the kick and made no mistake
to put Guardian Angel ahead.
FC Bardez drew level in the 51st minute when Peter Carvalho
capitalised on Guardian Angel defensive mix to complete his brace.
However, FC Bardez were stunned in the very next minute when
Micky scored a stunning goal from the centre kick to put his team back into the
lead.
Second half substitute Sanwil scored the team’s fourth goal in
the 58th minute with a beautiful volley which crashed into FC Bardez nets off
Benzu’s assist, 4-2.
Guardian Angel SC’s Micky bagged the Man-of-the-Match award.
Riston Rodgrigues, coach of Guardian Angel SC was extremely
pleased with his teams’ performance. “I thought we could have converted some
more goals; but the boys played well to come back with a bang. In the second
half, I told the boys to remain calm and focused, it worked wonders as our
supporters too were rallying behind us throughout the match,”said Riston.
“We are the first semi-finalist of the Goa Sevens Premier League
and I am looking forward to winning our upcoming matches,” said Riston.
Climax Lawrence, coach of FC Bardez was upset after putting up a
strong fight against Guardian Angel SC in the second half.” I felt we played
well this time. The boys failed to defend and missed out on easy goals but
surely they played their hearts out,” said Climax.
