LAZY BOYS TO TAKE ON VAILANKANNI BOYS IN FINAL
MARGAO: Lazy Boys sealed their place in the final of the 2016 Futsal Championship
with a 8-5 victory over Black Mambas after Nicholas Fernandes produced an
inspired performance at Fr Agnel’s Ashram Verna on Thursday.
Nicholas netted a stunning hat-trick and supplied another assist to help
Lazy Boys side reach the tournament showdown on Friday.
There they will meet surprise package Vailankanni Boys Merces, after the
5 men downed M7 Spartacus 4-2 with a brace from star player Suraj Hadkonkar
Five minutes in the first quarter, Williams Niasso broke the deadlock
with a smooth finish following a fine build-up to score his fifth goal in as
many games,
He made keeper Jonathan pay for his mistake to put his side ahead.
On the stroke of half-time, the game looked out of sight for Black Mambas
as they kept conceding goals. Their attacking style continued to leave their
defenders open at the back, and they were punished when Pinto fed team-mate Nicholas.
The playmaker cheekily found the back of the net through the legs of the
opposition goalkeeper.
But the match would soon tighten up following the break. Black Mambas burst
back into life with a two-goal reply through Colaco’s volley and a toe-poke
from N. Fernandes to reduce score-line to 5-3.
After patient ball retention, it was Savio Fernandes who netted the
sixth goal for Lazy Boys game after a mix-up by Carneiro.
Caught in possession, the ball eventually fell to Gama with the goal
gaping. The Lazy Boys couldn't fail to miss with no goalkeeper between the
sticks as Hayson Velho rolled his shot over the line to put the Lazy Boys into
the final of the Futsal Championship.
Nicholas Ferandes was awarded the Player of the Match at the hands of
Benjamin Silva, President of Futsal Association of Goa for his stunning
performance.
In the second semi-final night, coach Francis Azavedo’s team,
Vailankanni Boys Merces clashed with M7 Spartacus.
Coach Francis, led his side admirably and deservedly secured his side's
spot in the competition's final.
The first quarter was an uncharacteristically slow-tempoed affair, with
little chances of note on offer for either side. However, with 5 minutes on the
clock, Vailankanni Boys took the lead through Suraj Hadkonkar. The Vailankanni
Boys star struck a powerful shot past Elson to put his side in front and on
their way to the final.
Vailankanni Boys were the happier of the two sides entering the break
with a 3-0 lead, but it wasn't to last long. Within a minute of the restart, M7
sent the home crowd into raptures with a fine strike by Elson to cancel the
scoreline.
Vailankanni Boys now looked on the offensive as Suraj once more stung
the fingertips of opposition goalkeeper.
Kerain despite striking the inside of the post in the dying minutes,
could not put M7 back into the game.
Vailankanni Boys march on to the final where they'll meet Lazy Boys at
Fr Agnel’s Ashram, Verna.
Mr. Benjamin Silva, President, Futsal Association of Goa, dream of
expansion became reality with players playing in the Futsal Championship 2016

Premier Futsal League 2016 earlier this year. Going forward, Futsal Association
of Goa looks to boost Futsal fever in Goa with the belief that it would benefit
the future of Goan Football.
"Let us together try to inculcate the interest of Futsal in our kids,
so we continue to produce more and more players for Indian football team,"
